Six association executives were named to this year's "150 Most Powerful Women" list by Washingtonian magazine.
The list includes the Washington, D.C., area's most influential women in government, business, law, education, media, nonprofits and the arts, according to a statement by Washingtonian. This year's honorees will be recognized during an Oct. 10 luncheon.
"Washington is a town that is famously known for power," Washingtonian CEO Cathy Merrill said. "But what makes this region special is that there are so many different kinds of power beyond just government and politics. And what makes Washington unique are the many different arenas of power where women have climbed the ranks in what were once male-dominated fields."
The six association executives who made the list, all in the lobbying and advocacy category, are:
- Suzanne Clark, president, U.S. Chamber of Commerce
- Jo Ann Jenkins, CEO, AARP
- Gail MacKinnon, senior executive vice president, Motion Picture Association
- Susan Neely, CEO, American Council of Life Insurers
- Lisa Nelson, CEO, American Legislative Exchange Council
- Dawn Sweeney, CEO, National Restaurant Association
The full list is available at the Washingtonian website.
